Renowned Indian Film Editor Nishad Yusuf Found Dead in Kochi Apartment
October 30, Kochi: Prominent Malayalam film editor Nishad Yusuf was found dead at his residence in Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, early Wednesday morning. The 43-year-old editor, well-regarded in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries, was reportedly discovered in his apartment around 2 a.m. According to PTI, Malayalam media outlets have covered the incident, though an official cause of death has yet to be announced by the police. Authorities are conducting investigations, but no formal statement has been released so far.
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) confirmed Yusuf’s passing through a social media post, describing his death as a significant loss to the industry. "The unexpected demise of Nishad Yusuf, film editor, who played a major role in determining the contemporary future of the changing Malayalam cinema is not something the film world will be able to quickly accept," the organization stated, offering condolences on behalf of the FEFKA Directors' Union. While regional reports suggest suicide as a possible cause, police have not confirmed or ruled out any scenario, according to Matrubhoomi.
Nishad Yusuf’s Career and Contributions
Nishad Yusuf, originally from Harippad, was a celebrated name in South Indian cinema, with editing credits on major Malayalam films such as Thallumaala, Unda, One, Saudi Vellakka, and Adios Amigos. Recently, he secured one of his most high-profile projects, Kanguva, a pan-Indian film starring Suriya and Bobby Deol, which is set to release on November 14. Additionally, Yusuf was working on the highly anticipated film Bazooka, featuring Mohanlal and Mammootty, as well as Alappuzha Gymkhana.
In 2022, Yusuf received the Kerala State Award for Best Editor for his work on Thallumaala, solidifying his reputation as an influential figure in contemporary Malayalam cinema.
