Iranian Defense Minister Visits Damascus to Bolster Defense and Security Ties

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh arrived in Damascus on Saturday, leading a security delegation for high-level discussions with senior Syrian officials, including his counterpart, Ali Mahmoud Abbas, according to Al Mayadeen.

Nasirzadeh emphasized Syria’s critical role in Iran’s foreign policy and stated that the visit, made at the invitation of the Syrian Defense Minister, aims to strengthen defense and security cooperation. Discussions will focus on expanding collaboration and exchanging expertise between the two allies.

"Syria has extensive history and profound experience in combatting terrorism," Nasirzadeh noted, highlighting Syria's key role as a supporter of the Axis of Resistance. He reiterated Iran’s readiness to extend full support to Syria as per the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

Regional and Bilateral Cooperation

The visit follows a meeting on Thursday between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Ali Larijani, Senior Advisor to Khamenei, to discuss regional developments, including Israeli aggression on Palestine and Lebanon. The talks underscored the urgency of halting the violence and advancing shared interests.

President al-Assad reaffirmed Syria’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights and solidarity with the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples. Larijani, meanwhile, praised Syria’s pivotal regional role and reiterated Iran’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to bolster Syrian stability and influence for the benefit of the region.

This renewed dialogue between Iran and Syria underscores their strategic alliance and joint efforts to address security challenges while promoting regional solidarity.
