Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has extended his condolences following the death of top Hezbollah commander Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon. Hezbollah confirmed Safieddine's death on Wednesday, condemning the attack as a "criminal and aggressive Zionist airstrike" that claimed the lives of Safieddine and several other fighters.
In a statement, Hezbollah hailed Safieddine as a "great leader and esteemed martyr on the path to al-Quds" (Jerusalem), emphasizing his acceptance of martyrdom with patience and devotion.
President Pezeshkian expressed deep sorrow over the loss, commending Safieddine’s lifelong dedication to defending the oppressed in Palestine and Lebanon and his role in strengthening the resistance. He praised Safieddine's legacy of struggle, saying it would continue to inspire future generations.
Major General Hossein Salami, commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), also conveyed his condolences, highlighting that the ongoing events in Lebanon and Palestine reflect Western powers' efforts to uphold the Zionist regime at the expense of humanity and resistance. Salami asserted that these ambitions would ultimately fail, crediting the sacrifices and heroism of resistance fighters like Safieddine.

Hezbollah has compared the relationship between Safieddine and its martyred Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to that of al-Abbas and Imam Hussein, historic Islamic figures known for their loyalty and sacrifice during the Battle of Karbala. Safieddine was described as Nasrallah's loyal brother and trusted companion.
Throughout his career, Safieddine led Hezbollah’s Executive Council with distinction, overseeing the organization's operations and institutions. His connection to Hezbollah fighters and his deep ties with the families of martyrs earned him great respect within the resistance community. His martyrdom, Hezbollah noted, honors his legacy and places him among the "luminous convoy of the martyrs of Karbala."
