Iran Hails Martyrdom of Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar as Inspiration for Ongoing Resistance

Iran has hailed the assassination of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas’ political bureau, as an inspiration for the ongoing struggle against oppression. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a statement on Friday, emphasized that the martyrdom of resistance leaders like Sinwar would only strengthen the resolve of the Islamic nation to fight against occupation.

Pezeshkian's message came after Hamas confirmed Sinwar's martyrdom during a confrontation with Israeli forces in southern Gaza. He reiterated that the killing of such leaders would not weaken the resistance, referencing the resilience of the Palestinian cause with the phrase, "When a leader falls, another rises." He praised Sinwar’s courage, highlighting footage that depicted the leader continuing to fight despite being injured, and called his sacrifice a noble contribution to the ongoing struggle for liberation.

The president also extended condolences to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Palestinian people, and global supporters of freedom, describing Sinwar's death as a painful reminder of the Israeli regime's crimes.

Additionally, Major General Hossein Salami, chief commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), paid tribute to Sinwar, calling him an "untiring fighter" and a "legend of the struggle against the Zionist regime." Salami stated that Sinwar’s martyrdom would further fuel the determination of anti-Zionist forces and boost the ranks of the resistance.

Salami acknowledged Sinwar’s leadership in key operations, particularly Operation al-Aqsa Flood, which he credited with undermining Israel’s perceived security superiority. He expressed confidence that Sinwar’s death would only galvanize the Resistance, predicting that the regional anti-occupation front had evolved into a formidable "Great Resistance Front," opposing not only Israel but also the broader influence of the United States in the region.
