Major Espionage Scandal in Italy Links Israeli Mossad to Data Theft of High-Ranking Politicians
Italy is rocked by an unfolding espionage scandal involving an Italian intelligence-linked private firm accused of stealing sensitive data on prominent politicians, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Allegations suggest connections to the Israeli Mossad, escalating concerns around foreign interference and national security. Prime Minister Meloni has condemned the scheme, calling it a “threat to democracy,” and Italy’s Defense Minister has called for an urgent investigation, warning that the initial findings may only scratch the surface of the scandal.
Italian authorities are investigating a private intelligence firm in Milan, reportedly staffed by former Italian security personnel, over accusations of hacking and selling sensitive government data for profit. The scandal allegedly includes Mossad operatives who sought intelligence exchanges with the firm.
Italian media reports that the firm’s leader, an ex-police officer, is suspected of breaching government servers between 2019 and 2024, gathering classified information to sell to large corporations, legal firms, and foreign agents. High-level Italian officials and mafia members are allegedly linked to this operation, which has sparked fears that state secrets may have been compromised.
Foreign Influence and Espionage Allegations
According to Corriere Della Sera, Mossad agents, reportedly meeting with senior Italian intelligence figures, offered Italy information on Iranian gas deals and requested help identifying Russian hackers connected to the Wagner Group. Additional sources allege that the Vatican had a role in this intelligence exchange, raising questions about broader international implications.
Prior Espionage Concerns
The scandal follows last year’s mysterious incident on Lake Maggiore, where a boat capsized, killing four, including a 50-year-old Israeli. Reports claimed that most of the survivors, 18 out of 20, were intelligence agents quickly flown out of Italy. Mossad’s involvement in intelligence-gathering operations has recently come under scrutiny in other countries, including Turkiye, where Mossad-linked individuals were arrested for suspected espionage operations.

Mossad’s Global Reach
In recent months, Turkish intelligence detained several individuals tied to Mossad, including a key figure suspected of funding agents in Turkiye for operations against Palestinian and Syrian targets. Authorities report Mossad used operatives within Turkey to conduct intelligence operations, revealing an extensive network financed through Eastern Europe and involving cryptocurrency payments.
Italy’s investigation into this intelligence scandal underscores growing concerns over foreign espionage and cybersecurity threats. Italian officials warn the public to stay vigilant as the inquiry expands into what may be a far-reaching conspiracy involving multiple countries and covert operatives.
