US Deploys B-2 Spirit Bombers in Escalated Attacks on Yemen Amid Fears of Yemeni Air Defense Capabilities
A senior Yemeni military source revealed on Thursday that the recent deployment of B-2 Spirit bombers against Yemen by the U.S. highlights American concerns over losing its aircraft in Yemeni airspace, reflecting fears of Yemen's growing aerial capabilities.
Speaking to Al Mayadeen, the source emphasized that despite the advanced British and American weapons being used in strikes, these efforts would not neutralize the strategic military capabilities of the Yemeni army, which are continuously evolving.
"Yemen will not relent; it will persist in its support for Gaza and Lebanon. Any further escalation will have disastrous consequences for the U.S., the U.K., and their allies," the source warned.
According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent, the latest airstrikes did not target significant military depots but instead focused on mountains, a communication network in Saada, and empty camps. These attacks followed a Yemeni strike in the Red Sea that successfully targeted American commercial ships using missiles and drones.
The source further suggested that the aggression serves the interests of the Zionist lobby, highlighting that the U.S. and U.K.'s inability to protect the Israeli occupation is becoming increasingly apparent. "Their targeting of Yemen is futile and based on flawed assessments," the source claimed, adding that both nations' plans in Yemen and the broader region are misguided.
Regarding the military's target bank, the source noted that American, British, and Israeli strategies are well-known to the Yemeni army. He concluded by reaffirming the Yemeni people's steadfastness, promising mass mobilization to resist U.S., British, and Zionist aggression, and to support Gaza and Lebanon.
B-2 Spirit Bombers Used in Strikes on Sanaa and Saada
In a significant escalation, the U.S. and U.K. launched airstrikes on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and the Saada governorate early Thursday. These attacks, in line with ongoing military aggression in the region, were part of a broader campaign backing Israel’s war on Gaza.
The U.S. used its strategic B-2 Spirit bomber, marking a notable escalation. A U.S. defense official confirmed to CNN that the strikes were carried out using the B-2, a platform typically reserved for heavily defended targets due to its ability to carry a much larger payload than conventional fighter jets.
This decision follows impressive performances by Yemeni air defenses, which have downed at least 11 U.S.-made MQ-9 Reaper drones over the past year. Yemeni forces have also posed a threat to U.S.-U.K. fighter jets, signaling the growing effectiveness of Yemen's defense capabilities against advanced military technology.
