Iran Condemns U.S. Veto of UN Ceasefire Resolution on Gaza
Iran has strongly criticized the United States for vetoing a United Nations Security Council resolution advocating a ceasefire in Gaza, describing the action as "disgraceful" and accusing Washington of enabling continued violence in the region.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Iranian officials denounced the U.S. move as a "license" for the Israeli occupation to persist in its aggressive military campaign. The resolution, which had garnered significant international support, aimed to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and escalating civilian casualties in Gaza.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated, “By vetoing this resolution, the U.S. has unequivocally demonstrated its complicity in Israel’s war crimes. It is a betrayal of the fundamental principles of humanity and justice.”
The U.S. veto has sparked widespread condemnation from various global leaders and organizations, as the death toll in Gaza continues to rise, with the majority of victims being women and children. Efforts to secure a ceasefire and humanitarian relief in the besieged territory remain stalled.
This marks the fifth time the U.S. has used its veto power to block a ceasefire resolution at the UNSC during the ongoing conflict, further intensifying criticism of its unwavering support for Israel amid mounting civilian casualties.
